Chiefs sign veteran safety Mike Brown
The Kansas City Chiefs have signed former Bears safety Mike Brown.
Chiefs pick up veteran safety Mike Brown - Kansas City Star.
I think this is a good move. Scott Pioli is upgrading the talent at every position and creating competition. Bringing in the 31 year old safety should be good for Jarrad Page and Bernard Pollard.
Here are Mike Brown’s career stats: (via nfl.com)

Although durability is probably Brown’s biggest issue, now the Chiefs have three starting caliber safties. You can never have too much talent, right?

Chiefs sign Ryan Succop and agree to terms with Colin Brown
The Chiefs have officially started signing their 2009 NFL draft picks and the last player taken overall is the first one.
Chiefs Sign Seventh-Round Pick K Ryan Succop
Succop (6-2, 218) joined the Chiefs as the third of the club’s three seventh-round selections (256th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. He played in 50 games at South Carolina, connecting on 49 of 69 field goals (71.0%) with a career-long of 55 yards. He also converted 104 PATs and racked up a total of 251 points, the second-highest total in school history. He added 69 touchbacks on 192 kickoffs. He served as the punter during his sophomore and junior seasons, punting 85 times for 3,597 yards (42.3 avg.) with 22 inside the 20 and three touchbacks.
Succop played in 13 games as a senior in 2008, earning honorable mention All-Southeastern Conference honors. He connected on 20 of 30 field goals (66.7%), leading the SEC in both made FGs and FG attempts. He converted all 30 of his PATs for 90 total points.
From what I have heard Succop has a really strong leg, as in he has 60 range, but the problem is it may not go 60 yards straight. So, the Chiefs have to decide if they want distance or accuracy because I highly doubt they will carry two kickers.
Also, Chiefs 5th round draft pick Colin Brown has reportedly agreed to terms with the Chiefs but no contract has been signed (that we know about). Via Scout.com
The Kansas City Chiefs have reached a contract agreement with fifth-round pick OT Colin Brown, Scout.com has confirmed. According to a league source, it’s a three-year deal worth nearly $1.34 million with a signing bonus of close to $154,000.
The former University of Missouri offensive lineman lined up at right tackle during the team’s OTA practices.
Possible replacement forDamion McIntosh? Only time will tell.
Well, there you have it Chiefs fans, any thoughts? Who do you think the next player to sign with the team will be?

Brandon Carr Interview

One of my favorite things is when people use the contact form on this website, I love hearing from other fans and finding out what they think about the Chiefs currently. Also, people send me cool links sometimes too, and this is one of those occasions. So, thanks Patrick for the nice interview with Brandon Carr about his golf outing, returning to his hometown and his hopes for this season with the Chiefs.
(this is just a small portion of the interview, check out the link for the full interview)
New coaching staff this year, how’s that going so far, the transition from coach (Herman) Edwards to coach (Todd) Haley and his staff?
I think it’s going pretty good, just all about guys knowing their roles and doing their jobs. You know, we got new coaching staff, different expectations and everyone on the team has a clean slate for the most part, so that gives a lot of guys extra motivation just to work hard in the offseason because anybody can play now, the best guys are gonna play no matter where you’re drafted, a free agent, that’s what coach said the first day. So we’re just working and competing and gotta learn a whole new scheme, but when it comes down to it, it’s just football.
You had a pretty good rookie season and saw a lot of playing time. What’s your role in this system, does it suit your talents and what you’re able to do?
I think the system is a pretty good one, just gotta go out there and execute. What you learn from the coaches and what you learn from your playbook, like I said, the best 11 are gonna play and I’m gonna work my but off to make sure I’m one of those to go out there and help the team win ballgames.
…
Looking forward to the season, do you have any specific goals for yourself or for the Chiefs, anything you hope to reach by next year?
Uh, yeah we have our team goals. Our goal right now is pretty much to just take it one practice, one play, one game at a time and then in the season hopefully our record is good enough that we can advance and play in the playoffs. It’s kind of too early to think about those things, I’m just trying to get my body and mind right for this training camp.
Goals for myself, I just want to pick up where I left off last year. You know, try to make more plays, get my hand on a few more balls and help the team win.
Now go ahead and check out the rest of the interview here: Brandon Carr Interview.
Have a good one and GO CHIEFS!

Carl Peterson gets a new job
photo via USA Football
Former Chiefs GM/King Carl Peterson has found a new job as the chairman of the USA Football League. I think this could actually be a good fit for Mr. Peterson
Former Kansas City Chiefs executive Carl Peterson is the new chairman of USA Football. He replaces the late Jack Kemp.
In case you are wondering USA Football is the ‘national governing body of youth football’.
The group was endowed by the NFL and NFL Players Association in 2002. It hosts more than 100 football events annually, instructing coaches, players and game officials and providing resources for youth football league commissioners.
USA Football said Tuesday it will host a junior world championship from June 27-July 5 in Canton, Ohio.
According to USA Football these will be some of Peterson’s responsibilities:
Peterson will preside over USA Football’s board of directors and offer his insight toward USA Football initiatives, including:
- Nearly 50 full-day “Coaching Schools” in more than 30 states to train volunteer youth football coaches
- 40 nationwide meetings of youth football commissioners to offer insight and share best practices
- Nearly 20 officiating camps and seminars nationwide to educate and recruit football officials
- 12 three-day “Player Academies” conducted across the country to advance players’ skills, aged 9-14
- Distribution of $500,000 in equipment grants for youth football leagues, based on merit and need
- Distribution of $500,000 in volunteer youth football coach and volunteer background check subsidies
- Creation of the USA Football Youth Football Rule Book & National Playing Standard, unifying the youth game
- Author exclusive and innovative youth football-related research to further advance America’s favorite sport
I wish the best to Carl in his new venture and to USA Football… Good Luck.
