The preseason schedule for the Kansas City Chiefs has been released.
Week 1 August 13-17
- Houston Texans at Kansas City Chiefs
Week 2 August 20-24
- Kansas City Chiefs at Minnesota Vikings
Week 3 August 27-31
- Seattle Seahawks at Kansas City Chiefs
Week 4 September 3-7
- Kansas City Chiefs at St. Louis Rams
I don’t know about you, but since I will be attending the home games I am pretty excited that I get to see the first and third preseason games, which in my opinion are the best two games in the preseason to attend.
Now, let’s see that regular season schedule!!

According to this ESPN blog by Bill Williamson here some important dates for the Chiefs.

May 18-19, May 21-22, June 1-2, June 8-9, June 11-12, June 15-18 (OTAs)

Anyone else doubting that we will have an open minicamp this season like we have in years past?

Right now this is just a rumor (courtesy of 810 Sports in KC) but here it is:
I was listening to 810 over lunch and they started saying something about the construction company that is doing the renovations at Arrowhead. They said if the company and it’s workers don’t come to an agreement by March 30 at midnight that the union workers are going to go on strike.
They also said that if the strike happens and is a certain length of time (something like I heard everything from 45 to 60 to 90 days) that Arrowhead Stadium would not be ready for the open of the 2009 NFL season. A source then told 810 that the Chiefs would then play all of their games on the road this season and went on further to say that the Chiefs were asking permission to play all of their games away just in case.
I’m not pretending to understand what is going on between the union and the company, but as a season ticket holder this would suck.
Remember this is just a rumor at the moment and hasn’t been confirmed by anyone except 810.
What do you think Chiefs fans?
UPDATE: Here is a link to my buddies over at Arrowhead Pride who are saying the same thing.
So to summarize:
The rumor is that the carpenters and steel workers union will go on strike starting at midnight on Tuesday, April 1.
If the strike lasts more than 60-90 days the Chiefs are in jeopardy of having to play all 16 games on the road next year.

Looks like the Chiefs have finally decided to sign an offensive linemen.
The Chiefs agreed to contract terms today with veteran offensive lineman Mike Goff. Goff has some versatility and could wind up starting for the Chiefs at center or right guard.
The 33-year-old Goff played 11 NFL seasons, the first six with Cincinnati and the last five with San Diego. He has been a starter for the past nine seasons.
I really like this signing. Mike Goff seems to be a very solid player and should be an instant upgrade for whatever position he ends up playing on the offensive line.
Some might criticize this signing because of Goff’s age (he’s 33) but I don’t see that as a problem. Even if he only has a few years left in him I think he is worth signing. This also shows that Pioli and Haley want to win now and know that while young is good, you need the right amount of veterans mixed in.
Also, notice another word in that quote, “versatility”. We all know how Pioli loved versatile players in NE and looks to be continuing the trend here in KC.

I know it has been so crazy with Chiefs news lately that we haven’t really been able to keep up (ha ha) but Adam Teicher has provided us with some news thanks to his talk with Chiefs owner Clark Hunt.
Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt said Monday during a break at the NFL meetings that the Chiefs had decided to hold on to Gonzalez, their longtime Pro Bowl tight end. Hunt also said decisions regarding Johnson and Waters haven’t been made but added that either or both could return to play for the Chiefs this season.
So on the surface I am really happy, at least about the part where Clark says we are keeping Tony Gonzalez, maybe Tony G has seen that the Chiefs are heading in a different direction now and wants to be a part of it. But… I can’t help but think this just could be the Chiefs talking the talk, e.g. so they can up Tony’s trade value and if a really sweet deal did come along take it.
Now, with that said why would it make sense in trying to up Tony’s trade value while not making the same about Waters and LJ? I could understand saying you don’t know if you will trade LJj because honestly his trade value isn’t much right now, but with Waters you would think it would make sense to try to up his trade value (if you really are trying to trade him that is). Maybe the Chiefs staff is trying to send Waters (and other Chiefs players) a message that no matter who you are one player is not great than the team.
Personally I hope we can keep Gonzalez, Waters and even give LJ a shot with the new staff (maybe their no-nonsense approach will be good for him).
Go Chiefs!

So the Kansas City Chiefs have apparently signed someone that is worth having a news conference over.
The Chiefs have signed somebody, but right now it’s a mystery | Red Zone.
The Chiefs have scheduled a 4:30 p.m. news conference today to announce the signing of a player. In keeping with the team’s offseason theme, that player’s identity for now remains a secret.
We all know the Chiefs have a lot of needs, with offensive line, wide reciever, linebacker, and pass rusher being amoung the more pressing. To me this would sugguest players such as Orlando Pace, Torry Holt, maybe Bobby Engram. Also, Jason Taylor is still out on the market I believe.
So, what do you think Chiefs fans? Who will the Chiefs annouce as the newest member of their team? My money would be on Pace.

Word on the street is that Clancy Pendergast will be announced as the new defensive coordinator for the Chiefs. Clancy (who names their kid that?) worked with Haley in Arizona as DC there, so obviously they know each other. None of his numbers have been stellar by any means, but his knowledge and schemes could help our young team. He’s used to running a combination of the 4-3 and 3-4, so look for us to run a similar defense in 2009. Hopefully more details will come out over the weekend to confirm this report. This would indicate the Gary Gibbs will most likely be taking over as linebackers coach too. Any thoughts Chiefs fans?

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed former Dolphin CB Travis Daniels.
Here is a little about him from the Official Chiefs website:
Daniels (6-1, 195) has played in 51 games (26 starts) during his four-year NFL career with Miami (2005-07) and Cleveland (2008). He has recorded 126 tackles (93 solo), three interceptions for 31 yards, 19 passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and one QB pressure. He originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round draft choice (104th overall) of the Dolphins in 2005.
The Chiefs depth chart at the CB position has the following names on it; Brandon Flowers, Brandon Carr, Ricardo Colclough, David Macklin. Add Travis Daniels to the list and the Chiefs should be pretty solid at CB. Those names are all on the official Chiefs depth-chart and I really wonder why Maurice Leggett isn’t listed?? Remember his ‘pick six’ against the Donks… (sigh… good times).
Now, back to Travis Daniels. He’s got only a little bit of an injury history, missing all of preseason and the first four games of the 2008 season. He’s appeared in 47 games, with 25 starts, accumulating three interceptions, 93 tackles and 20 passes defensed.
