I am still letting a lot of these sink in… and I will judge the picks more once they actually hit the field.
Keep in mind that Pioli has a pretty good draft history (particularly with defensive linemen in the first round) so don’t be too quick to judge.
The one word I think about when I see this draft is versatility.
What do you think Chiefs fans?

Kansas City Chiefs Select LSU DE Tyson Jackson with the Number 3 Pick

The Chiefs have selected LSU DE Tyson Jackson.
So apparently the rumors were true about the Chiefs being in love with him. I had a feeling the Chiefs would take Tyson Jackson here.
I have to admit that I am slightly surprised with this pick, but as I have said I will trust Pioli until he proves me wrong. Also, this makes the third year in a row the Chiefs took a LSU Tiger with their first overall pick.
Now the question is are the Chiefs done for today or are Pioli and company working on their next move?

Chiefs Trade Tony Gonzalez to the Falcons

- Image by Getty Images via Daylife
So the Chiefs really have traded Tony Gonzalez…
The Chiefs have agreed to trade the perennial Pro Bowl tight end to the Atlanta Falcons for a second-round pick in the 2010 draft, FOXSports.com has learned.
(Sigh…)
Gonzalez has already spoken to both the Chiefs and Falcons about the deal, according to sources.
So for the best TE ever the Chiefs get a second round pick NEXT year(2010).
So much for Clark Hunt saying the Chiefs didn’t want to trade Gonzalez.
Here is what Clark Hunt had to say today:
“On behalf of my family and the Chiefs, I want to thank Tony for his time in Kansas City,” Chiefs Chairman Clark Hunt said. “Over the last 12 seasons, Tony has been one of the finest players in Chiefs history, and he will always be remembered as a member of the Chiefs. His play on the field speaks for itself – he holds almost every major NFL record for tight ends, and he is arguably the best to ever play his position. We wish him the best in Atlanta.”
And here is what Scott Pioli had to say:
“From an organizational as well as personal standpoint there are mixed emotions. I have the highest personal and professional respect for Tony and consider him to be a future Pro Football Hall of Famer.”
Honestly I understand this move, the Chiefs got a second round pick for a player that only has a few years left… but why do I still feel TICKED? Also I think it would have been a lot better if they got a second round pick THIS year because bottom line for this season the Chiefs get nothing for Gonzo…
Well… I wish you all the best Tony, you will always be a Chiefs to me and one of my all time favorites.

Tony G Traded to Atlanta
Apparently it’s official, Tony G has been traded to Atlanta for a 2nd round pick in the 2010 draft. What do you think Chiefs fans, did we get a good deal? Too bad it isn’t for a pick this year, but a 2nd rounder for a 33 year old TE is still a decent trade. I wouldn’t put it past our new management to trade that pick for a 2nd rounder this year instead. Tony, you will be missed and will forever be a Chief. Best of luck with the Falcons!
