Chiefs Conditioning Test Update

As I’m sure you are aware of by now, Chiefs head coach Todd Haley has required that each player on the Chiefs pass a conditioning test before they are allowed to practice in team activities.

Here are some quotes regarding this conditioning test that took place this morning:

Coach Haley says conditioning test met expectations…ready to get things started tomorrow.

Tight end Brad Cottam showed up to lunch at the University Center wearing a yellow cut-off shirt and a green visor. He commented on the conditioning test that Head Coach Todd Haley had the players participate in earlier in the morning. “Most guys made it,” Cottam said. He said the team knew the test was coming, so they had been preparing for it and working hard in the off-season. Cottam said that the mentality of the team so far has been “exciting and new.” “We’ll see in a week how things are looking,” he said. Cottam also said that he’s excited to get pads on and practice

When asked if he thought this year’s team was in better shape than last year, center Rudy Niswanger said, “Oh yeah.” Niswanger said that being in shape allows for the players to stay better conditioned and learn how to approach plays smarter. With being better conditioned, Niswanger forsees his team being able to stay fresh throughout an entire game. “We’ll have better fourth quarters,” he said. “Therefore, we’ll have less fourth quarter losses.”

Here is one player who didn’t pass the test (via Red Zone)

Defensive end Glenn Dorsey admitted Friday that he was among the handful of players who didn’t pass the test.

“Close,” he said after a long pause. “I’ve still got a ways to go.”

In Dorsey’s defense, he had ice taped to his left lower leg. It’s ostensibly the same injury that kept Dorsey out of most offseason practices. Dorsey has enough work ahead that he can’t afford a long absence from practices, which begin tomorrow. Haley has said players can’t join team activities before passing the test. Dorsey is making the switch from tackle to end.

Bob Gretz confirms that everyone did not pass the test

Haley would not talk at all about those players who failed the conditioning test. The coach made the session off-limits to media and fans. He did indicate that a number of players will not be passed on the team physical for a number of reasons, and thus will be unable to practice Saturday morning.

But Coach Haley doesn’t seem TOO worried as of yet:

“We don’t have anybody that’s real far off and that’s what I feel good about,” Haley said of those players that will start practice on the sideline. “None of these are long term deals and we should have everybody going pretty soon.”

Well, there you have the jest of it. Most of the Chiefs players passed the mandatory conditioning test and the ones didn’t are not too far off.  Overall good news, now… let’s get workin’ boys!

Last year was a very rough year to be a Chief. One positive that can be taken from this is finishing 2-14 there is really nowhere to go but up and Chiefs seem to doing everything in their power to make the best on and off the field decisions to help their organization for both now and the future..

Let’s talk about some of the key losses for the Chiefs and then we will go on and see what they added.

Thanks for the opportunity MVN and thanks to all of you for reading. Go Chiefs!!

I just came across this video (from kcchiefs.com) that covers some of the new renovations at Arrowhead Stadium, including a new section called the VIP Club Level.

Looks pretty sweet to me, but makes me wonder how much $$ that cost to get access. Let’s us know what you think in the comment section below.
(having an issue with the video showing up below for some reason, but you can view the video here as well)
