Game DayThread - Game 16: Kansas City Chiefs Vs. Cincinnati Bengals
So here is the final game of the year… game 16:
The Chiefs are 2-13 after their stupid loss to the Dolphins at home. As far as the NFL games this could be the weakest game on the schedule, but this game actually could have great implications for the playoffs division race 2009 NFL Draft (at least for the Chiefs).
For the Chiefs to have a chance in this game one of the keys for them will be to make sure their running game gets on track early (and if we get a lead RUN THE BALL and the clock) and Thigpen needs to keep playing like he has been since we went to the spread (since going to the spread Thiggy’s QB rating is pretty good). Just don’t blow it if you get a lead, Chiefs.
One thing I am worried about in this game is the fact that the Chiefs are playing on the road… I read that the Chiefs are 1-9 against the spread on the road in their last ten games… BTW the Chiefs are a three point underdog this week.
(Slipping on the RED colored glasses) Looking at this from a positive perspective, if the Chiefs can get that running game going, cash in their red zone and TO opportunites, and the defense stops them every onnce in a while I think we have a shot here. The Chiefs MUST win the turnover battle and CASH IN on the TO’s they do create if they want to stand a chance. That’s a lot of “IFs”, but the main thing I am worrid about is the 2nd half. IF the Chiefs actually jump out to lead I want to see them actually close a game out… is it Thiggy, Herm, or a combination of the two that just can’t keep a lead?
As always please post any comments, pictures, or whatever in the comment section below before, during or after the game. If you see something that you hated (or loved) let the rest of us know!
I’ll be yelling from my seat on the couch this week, hoping very much for a Chiefs victory in this FINAL GAME… ( I think I want a win… but a higher draft pick than the Rams would be nice too) its been an interesting year Chiefs let’s try to finish strong!
GO CHIEFS!!

Game DayThread - Game 14: Kansas City Chiefs Vs. San Diego Chargers
So here is game 14:
The Chiefs are 2-11 after their sucky loss to the Donkeys. (Why does last week’s game feel like such a lone time ago??) This is a big game for both teams (ok… I tried), as the Chiefs would like to freaking win a game and the Chargers would like to at least not be the worst team in the AFC West. This game could also have great implications for the playoffs division race 2009 NFL Draft.
For the Chiefs to have a chance in this game one of the keys for them will be to make sure their running game gets on track early (LJ needs the rock!) and Thigpen needs to keep playing like he has been since we went to the spread. This should be a decent game for Thigpen as the Chargers are not great on pass defense, I believe ranking in the lower 1/3 of the league in this categoty. Good Luck Thiggy.
One thing I am worried about in this game is the Chargers offensive attack. These are the same guys who are capable of putting up a ton of yards and points on peaple. There is a reason Phillip Rivers is a top fantasy QB this year.
That’s a lot of “IFs”, but I like our chances this week against a Chargers team that is, well, falling apart and seem to have written this season off.

Game DayThread - Game 13: Kansas City Chiefs Vs. Denver Broncos
So here is game 13:
The Chiefs are 2-10 after their winning (hhhWHAATT?!?) showing last week against the Raiders and are still on the road this week as they travel to Denver to play the Donkeys. This is a big game for both teams, as the Chiefs would like to keep the streak alive (and sweep the freakin Broncos) and the Donks would like to distance themselves in the not so tight AFC West race. This game could also have great implications for the playoffs division race 2009 NFL Draft.
For the Chiefs to have a chance in this game one of the keys for them will be to make sure their running game gets on track early (LJ needs another game like last time we played them!) and Thigpen needs to keep playing like he has been the last several weeks. This should be a decent game for Thigpen to “back on track” (don’t really think he got off track TOO much) after a tough matchup against the Raiders secondary last week. Good Luck Thiggy.
One thing I am worried about in this game is the Raiders passing attack. These are the same guys who put up a ton of yards against the Chiefs in the first meeting. Can the Chiefs defense pull another “bend but don’t break this week? I sure hope so. Those rookie corners need to have big games today.
That’s a lot of “IFs”, but I like our chances this week against a Broncos team that is, well, unpredictable, you never know what you are going to get.

Game DayThread - Game 12: Kansas City Chiefs Vs. Oakland Raiders
So here is game 12:
The Chiefs are 1-10 after their showing last week against the Bills and are hitting the road this week to play the Raiders. This is a big game for both teams, as the Chiefs would like to WIN and so would the Raiders. This game could also have great implications for the playoffs division race 2009 NFL Draft.
For the Chiefs to have a chance in this game one of the keys for them will be to make sure their running game gets on track early (LJ get back on track dude!) and Thigpen needs to keep playing like he has been the last several weeks. This should be a decent game for Thigpen to “back on track” (don’t really think he got off track) after a tough matchup against the Bills last week. Good Luck Thiggy.
One thing I am worried about in this game is the Raiders rushing attack. These are the same guys who rushed for 300 yards against the Chiefs in the first meeting and the Chiefs are coming off of a game where they gave up 54 points (a franchise worst) to a Bills offense that is not potent to say the least.
That’s a lot of “IFs”, but I like our chances this week against a Raiders team that is, well, the Raiders.

Game DayThread - Game 11: Kansas City Chiefs vs Buffalo Bills
So here is game 11:
The Chiefs are 1-9 after putting up a (semi)decent showing last week against the Saints and are at home again this week to play the Bills. This is a big game for both teams, as the Chiefs STILL need a WIN and the Bills are trying to stop thier four game losing streak.
For the Chiefs to have a chance in the game one of the keys for the Chiefs will be to make sure their running game gets on track early (LJ get back on track dude!) and Thigpen needs to just not lose the game for the Chiefs (another showing like last four weeks would be GREAT Thiggy). This should be the hardest test for Thigpen so far as the Bills are the 13th overall defense and also ranked 13th against the pass. Good Luck Thiggy.
One thing I am worried about in this game is Bills RB Marshawn Lynch. He is a big back who could tire you down as the game goes on and end up breaking a long one on you late in the game. For the Chiefs sake they need to play tough run defense (haven’t allowed 100 yards rushing the last two weeks) and not allow the big play like they were doing in earlier weeks.
Looking at this from a positive perspective, if the Chiefs can get that running game going, cash in their red zone and TO opportunites, and the defense stops them every onnce in a while I think we have a shot here. The Chiefs MUST win the turnover battle and cash in on the TO’s they do create if they want to stand a chance. That’s a lot of “IFs”, but I like our chances this week against a Bills team strugling to find themselve. Please dont let this be the week!

Game DayThread - Game 10: Kansas City Chiefs vs New Orleans Saints
So here is game 10:
The Chiefs are 1-8 after putting up a respectable showing last week against the Bolts and are back at home to play the Saints. This is a big game for both teams, as the Chiefs need a WIN and the Saints are trying to keep pace with all of the other teams in their division.
For the Chiefs to have a chance in the game one of the keys for the Chiefs will be to make sure their running game gets on track early (LJ comng back determined would be a great asset for the Chiefs about now) and Thigpen needs to just not lose the game for the Chiefs (another showing like last week would be GREAT Thiggy). This should be possible since the Saints are ranked in the lower third of the league against the pass and have injured CB’s. Good Luck Thiggy.
One thing I am worried about in this game is the Saints ability to gian yards in bunches and put up points with the quickness. You know they like to throw the ball with Brees and I just hope that the banged up CHiefs defense can put up a strong showing.
Looking at this from a positive (and HOMER-ISH) perspective, if the Chiefs can get that running game going (WITH Larry Johnson, FINALLY) and the defense stops them every onnce in a while and creates some turnovers (like last week) I think we have a shot here. The Chiefs MUST win the turnover battle and cash in on the TO’s they do create if they want to stand a chance. That’s a lot of “IFs”, but I like our chances.

Game DayThread - Game 9: Kansas City Chiefs vs San Diego
So here is game 9:
The Chiefs are 1-7 after putting up a respectable showing last week against the Bucs and are back on the road to play the Chargers. This is a big game for both teams, as the Chiefs need a WIN and the Chargers are trying to keep pace with the Broncos, who pulled out a narrow victory on Thursday night, and not to mention this is a division game.
For the Chiefs to have a chance in the game one of the keys for the Chiefs will be to make sure their running game gets on track early and Thigpen needs to just not lose the game for the Chiefs (another showing like last week would be GREAT Thiggy). This should be possible since the Chargers are ranked #32 against the pass. Good Luck Thiggy.
One thing I am worried about in this game is the Chargers ability to run the football. You know they like to run the ball with LT and Sproles and even if LT isn’t the same back he was last year he is still more than capable of running of the Chiefs run defense. So can the Chiefs stop the run this week? Or at least not allow a big play for two games in a row?
Looking at this from a positive (and HOMER-ISH) perspective, if the Chiefs can get that running game going (without Larry Johnson, AGAIN) and the defense comes to play and creates some turnovers (like last week) I think we have a shot here. The Chiefs MUST win the turnover battle if they want to stand a chance. That’s a lot of “IFs”, but there is always a chance.

Game DayThread - Game 8: Kansas City Chiefs vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
So here is game 8:
The Chiefs are 1-6 after putting up a respectable showing last week aginst the Jets and are back at Arrowhead to play the Bucs. This is a big game for both teams, as the Chiefs need hope and the Bucs will try to prove they they can win a game on the road (I read they are 1-3 away from home this season).
For the Chiefs to have a chance in the game one of the keys for the Chiefs will be to make sure their running game gets on track early and Thigpen needs to just not lose the game for the Chiefs (another showing like last week would be GREAT Thiggy). This could be very hard to do against the Bucs as they have a pretty solid defense and have a habbit of terrorizing young QB’s.
One thing I am worried about in this game in the Bucs ability to run the football. You know they like to run the ball (pound it) and then play solid, ball-hawking defense. Can the Chiefs stop the run this week? Or at least not allow a big play for once?
Looking at this from a positive (and HOMER-ISH) perspective, if the Chiefs can get that running game going (without Larry Johnson, AGAIN) and the defense comes to play and creates some turnovers (like last week) I think we have a shot here. The Chiefs MUST win the turnover battle if they want to stand a chance. That’s a lot of “IFs”, but there is always a chance.

Game DayThread - Game 7: Kansas City Chiefs vs New York Jets

So here is game 7:
The Chiefs are 1-5 after they got manhandled by the Titans last week and are back in travel mode as they head off to New York to play the Jets. This is a big game for both teams, as the Chiefs need hope and the Jets will try to prove they are not the same NY Jets that lost to the Oakland Raiders last week..
For the Chiefs to have a chance in the game one of the keys for the Chiefs will be to make sure their running game gets on track early. This could be very hard to do against the Jets as they have a pretty solid defense.
It will be interesting to me to see how the Jets play this game. Will they stick to their guns and let Favre be the gunslinger, or will they do what works against the Chiefs and run the ball down their throat?
Looking at this from a positive (and HOMER-ISH) perspective, if the Chiefs can get that running game going (without Larry Johnson, AGAIN) and the defense comes to play and creates some turnovers I think we have a shot here. The Chiefs MUST win the turnover battle if they want to stand a chance. That’s a lot of “IFs”.
What do I think will happen this game? Well, lets just say I am starting Brett Favre, Thomas Jones, and the NY Jets Defense in one of my fantasy leagues. If for reason the Chiefs shut them down I will be cool with that too though because I will always take a Chiefs victory over a fantasy one. Its a win-win.

Game DayThread - Game 6: Kansas City Chiefs vs Tennessee Titans
So here is game 6:
The Chiefs are 1-4 after they got manhandled by the Panthers two weeks ago and are finally back in the “friendly” confines of Arrowhead Stadium. This is a big game for both teams, but especially for the Chiefs as they try to bounce back from an embarrassing shutout loss.
One of the keys for the Chiefs will be to make sure their running game gets on track early. This could be very hard to do against the Titans, who have one of, if not the best defense in the NFL right now.
Tennessee will be looking to do a lot of the same things the Chiefs try to do, expect probably do it better. lol… I wish I was joking… But yes, the Titans look to pound the rock and the rely on the strength of their D to keep them in the game. Take a close look at the Titans today because this is what the Chiefs want to be.
Looking at this from a positive perspective, if the Chiefs can get that running game going (without Larry Johnson) and the defense comes to play and creates some turnovers I think we have a shot here. The Chiefs MUST win the turnover battle if they want to stand a chance.
