Brandon Carr Interview

One of my favorite things is when people use the contact form on this website, I love hearing from other fans and finding out what they think about the Chiefs currently. Also, people send me cool links sometimes too, and this is one of those occasions. So, thanks Patrick for the nice interview with Brandon Carr about his golf outing, returning to his hometown and his hopes for this season with the Chiefs.
(this is just a small portion of the interview, check out the link for the full interview)
New coaching staff this year, how’s that going so far, the transition from coach (Herman) Edwards to coach (Todd) Haley and his staff?
I think it’s going pretty good, just all about guys knowing their roles and doing their jobs. You know, we got new coaching staff, different expectations and everyone on the team has a clean slate for the most part, so that gives a lot of guys extra motivation just to work hard in the offseason because anybody can play now, the best guys are gonna play no matter where you’re drafted, a free agent, that’s what coach said the first day. So we’re just working and competing and gotta learn a whole new scheme, but when it comes down to it, it’s just football.
You had a pretty good rookie season and saw a lot of playing time. What’s your role in this system, does it suit your talents and what you’re able to do?
I think the system is a pretty good one, just gotta go out there and execute. What you learn from the coaches and what you learn from your playbook, like I said, the best 11 are gonna play and I’m gonna work my but off to make sure I’m one of those to go out there and help the team win ballgames.
…
Looking forward to the season, do you have any specific goals for yourself or for the Chiefs, anything you hope to reach by next year?
Uh, yeah we have our team goals. Our goal right now is pretty much to just take it one practice, one play, one game at a time and then in the season hopefully our record is good enough that we can advance and play in the playoffs. It’s kind of too early to think about those things, I’m just trying to get my body and mind right for this training camp.
Goals for myself, I just want to pick up where I left off last year. You know, try to make more plays, get my hand on a few more balls and help the team win.
