Breaking News: Chiefs Offer Scott Pioli GM Job

610 Sports along with my buddies over at Arrowhead Pride are reporting that the Kansas City Chiefs have offered Scott Pioli the job of General Manager of the Kansas City Chiefs.
It is being said that thier are two sticking points points, including money and control over football operations, specifically the coaching staff.
As far as money goes it is unclear how close theses two parties are to any sort of agreement. Unless Piolo wants some un-Godly amount of money I don’t think this will be a problem. If Clark Hunt really believes that Scott Pioli is the man for this job and they are to the point of negotiating dollars and cents, it will happen.
Power: Also according to 610 Sports, Pioli is asking for more control over football operations, in particularly the coaching staff. Most seems to agree that means that Pioli wants Herm gone as head coach and as Clark has said the new GM will definitely be a part of the decision about the head coach. I don’t see this as a problem. I believe this could be an issue because while Carl Peterson was here he gave his head coach control over his own coaching staff.
I believe the two sourse above much more than this, but there was also a comment on the Red Zone blog stating the following (take it for whatever it’s worth)
Okay gang, as many of you know I still have friends at the highest level in the Chiefs organization and have this info to share with full confidence: Scott Pioli is the new GM. His announcement will come Thursday or Friday at the latest. Clark and Scott are working out the finer points of his contract tonight, but the deal is sealed. Also, Clark informed Herm Edwards and his coaching staff that they will be released. All assistants can reapply through Scott.
I only share this information because I’m no longer with the team and it’s fun to share that a new day is dawning at Arrowhead. Scott Pioli will quickly move to clean out the front office and hire a new coach.
The only info I have on the new coach is it will not be Kirk Ferentz from the Iowa Hawkeyes. Kirk coaches his son at Iowa and does not want to leave until his son graduates.
Mike Shanahan has contacted Pioli, but I don’t know any info beyond that.
So, I guess now we all just wait to see if this news is true or not. I will post any news as soon as I find out.

Great Job, BigKnoxy. Thank You. The dark clouds are opening up with silver linings, see it? Right over Arrowhead one as we speak!!
G O C H I E F S ! ! ! !
Lol… I agree Igorash, this is exciting news! Just to see the Chiefs go after who most believe to be the top GM candidate on the market is great and shows that we are heading in the right direction.
Now it’s just a waiting game…
I’ve been reading alot of stuff lately about the chiefs since the season is over. Just a couple of things, i think on the 2009 draft we need one more Offensive lineman. Whether it be a RG or RT. On the other side of the ball we need a good pass rusher or at least a badass linebacker line mauluga from USC or however you spell his name. Hopefully we could get lucky on the FA and snag a DE like peppers or somebody else who is very talented. On the subject of LJ, i think he is just pissed and doesnt want to be a chief anymore because of what the scheme of things has been (playin spread offense, having a shitty line, ect.) because with spread offense, there goes 9+ 100 yrd games in a season. If we fix this line situation he should lose the attitude and stop acting like a girl. Frustration shouldnt make you want leave KC…especially if you just signed a 5 yr contract and are wiping your ass with 50$ bills. If Pioli does become the new GM…im sure the coaching staff (or some of them) will be gone, and maybe then LJ will stop bitchin. Personally, i think Edwards is a good coach, talk shit if you want but the chiefs have done DECENT in about 8 or 9 of their games. They only lost by a TD or fewer. Even if you dont win, they still impressed people for being such a young team. I expect very good things next year and if not then, then 2010. On the QB situation, keep thigpen. Sure he makes some mistakes, but who doesnt? Favre throws INT after INT but he is still one of the best QBs….Payton Manning throws some INTs and he is still a Pro Bowl QB…even TOM BRADY has off days (very very very few though=/….) but look how good he is. This is pretty much Thigpens 1st year…give him at least one more year to prove himself…he earned it. Especially with getting the most rushing yrds for a QB. I think we should just grab a couple good D LINE or O LINE and a LB then go after FA…after we all seen how close the chiefs have been last year in half their games, Herm deserves to stay one more year. Why would a new coach get all the credit if Edwards was the one who created it?
Pioli and Mike Shanahan, you couldn’t ask for more as a chiefs fan!
