Chiefs dispute missed field goal early in Titans game

What is up with the refs this season? I don’t know if I have ever seen this many blown calls this far into the season.

I’m not sure what they said about this on the TV broadcast, but in the stadium they showed the replay of this and you could clearly tell it was inside the upright, even to the point (on that camera angle) that the ball was behind the post.  Come on!!

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs lost a possible field goal in the second quarter against Tennessee on Sunday, when the officials ruled the kick no good and wouldn’t allow a challenge.

With the Chiefs trailing 10-0 early in the quarter, kicker Nick Novak thought he had curled a 49-field goal inside the left upright. But the officials standing up the goal posts ruled the kick no good, leading to boos from the fans in Arrowhead Stadium and arguments from the Chiefs.

Kansas City coach Herm Edwards threw the red replay flag to dispute the call, but was told by referee Gene Steratore that only field goals crossing below the top of the goal posts are reviewable. Television replays appeared to show the kick curl just inside the upright, but above the top of the post.

Novak stomped around the sideline after hearing the ruling and holder Dustin Colquitt slammed his helmet to the ground. [Yahoo! News]

I have been searching for a clip of this so if anyone finds one please let me know so I can post it here.

  2. They’re right and I was preaching this at the game, Herm couldn’t challenge because it was just above the upright. Wasn’t his fault this time.
