Denver is the luckiest team in the NFL
If the call in the San Diego vs Denver game that cost the Chargers the game wasn’t enough, the Donkeys are at it again. If you look at the photo below you can see that Denver LB Jamie Winborn is clearly lined up in the neutral zone when the Saints snapped the ball.
Line judge Tom Stephan did not throw a flag, and running back Pierre Thomas was stopped stopped int he backfield for a loss. One play later, Saints kicker Martin Gramatica missed a 43-yard field-goal that would have given the Saints a 35-34 lead with 1:55 remaining.
This penalty would have given the Saints a first down. This would clearly allowed the Saints to run some more clock, possibly get in for a TD, and/or attempt a shorter FG. This could have definitely changed the outcome of the game, but now we will never know.
