Mike Shanahan Next Chiefs Head Coach?

The rumor mill is spinning more than it has in a while her in KC and it is saying that Mike Shanahan could be the next head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Mike Shanahan Could be Next Chiefs Head Coach - NBC Action News KSHB-TV 41.

NBC Action Sports has learned that the Chiefs are getting very close to naming their new head coach.

While we can’t confirm it, we’re hearing that it sounds like Mike Shanahan could be the replacement for Herm Edwards. We should find out by Friday.

Jack Harry of NBC in Kansas City is the one that broke this story and coincidentally he is the same guy that said Mike Shanahan ‘reached out’ to the Chiefs back on Jan. 13.  Like most others I wonder how he, of all people, has an insider at One Arrowhead Drive when everything has been kept so air-tight recently.

I’m not sure how I feel about this. Shanahan’s record speaks for itself without Elways (only one playoff victory in the last 10 years) but as I said before I will trust Pioli is making the right decision until it is otherwise shown.

Shany “The Rat” could be our next coach Chiefs fans, what do you think?

  2. I’m a Broncos fan. But please, read on. Mike is a great coach. He’s smart, solid. I was sad to see him go. I’ve also been a fan of Herm. The hardest games for the Broncos have been going into Arrowhead. IF Shanahan is the new head coach, he’ll do well by the Chiefs. Personally, I hope he’s not - I’d rather not have him in the division!

  4. I hate the Denver Broncos but i think Shannahan is a good coach he would do a better job than Edwards. Might be able to make it to the playofffs his first year in if he gets the job.

  6. I’m a Chiefs fan who’s lived in Denver the entire Shanny era, and believe me his aura is very overstated. Post-Elway his regime has been a never-ending series of screwups in the draft, in free agent signings and in big-game performance. The one time he landed a guy who could successfully lead the team in Shanahan’s system — Jake Plummer — he canned him the season after going to the AFC Championship game. Shanny had I think 5 or 6 defensive coordinators in the past six years and his last several drafts of defensive players have been weak, at best. Let’s not even get into his free agent signings of such mega-bucks busts as Dale Carter (the Chiefs let him go for a reason), Daryl Gardener and the entire former d-line of the Browns.

I can understand Shanny being willing to forego the “total control” authority he wielded in Denver in order to come to the Chiefs and try to take revenge on the Broncos, but we can do better.

  12. I’m a die hard Chiefs fan, a season ticket holder that lives 5 hours away from Arrowhead, I’m happy, nor sad to see Herm get fired, I put my faith in Pioli (Don’t really have much choice). But I say if Shanohan wasent good enough for Denver, Why the *$*$ is he good enough for KC? Last miserably cold game of the year against Miami, the crowd was chanting “Cowher”. We need Bill.

  18. Shanahan is not an upgrade from Herm Edwards!!! It will be a waist of money to have paid Herm off to hire this guy. Not to mention the great draft Herm did last year (and could have done again) compared to any Shanahan ever did. If we can’t get BILL then we are just spitting in the wind! We should have let Herm finnish his contract and picked up BILL next season. I would rather see an unknown get a shot at this job than Shanahan.

  20. Any thoughts on Haley after yesterday’s game? His offense sputtered at times, but moved the ball practically at will for most of the 2nd and 4th quarters.

  22. @ Bil M: Yes, I think Haley showed that he can indeed coach yesterday. He played the best defense in the NFL and showed that his offense could still score. One thing that impressed me was the adjustments he made, something Herm’s staff seemed incapable of doing this past season.
