The Chiefs QB Situation… A New Twist

As all of you know the Chiefs seem to be in quite a pickle. Their supposed QB of the future comes back next week to play against the Tennessee Titans and there are still lots of possibilities as to what could happen. If nothing else it should be very interesting to watch the rest of the season play out to say the least.

Suppose Brodie doesn’t get hurt and finishes the season out strong, what do you do then?  Do you sign Brodie to an extension or let him go and say that he has already proven he can’t stay healthy for a full season?  If this did play out and the Chiefs decided to give him an extension isn’t that just really delaying the inevitable? Brodie seems to the type of player that will get hurt again and when that happens the Chiefs will be back in the very same spot they are now, looking for a new QB.

Suppose Brodie comes back and gets hurt at some point before the season is over, what do you do then? Most would say cut him loose and I tend to agree, but I was thinking that there is still another possibility.  If (or when) Brodie gets hurt this season that obviously will lower his value as a QB and this could be a good thing for the Chiefs. They could still go after a new QB, whether via Draft or Free Agency, and resign Brodie for backup or third string type money (assuming he would).  If you did this you would have a guy that already knows the playbook and could step in for short times if the new QB gets a little banged up.

Anyways, those are just some thoughts I had on this lazy Friday. What do you guys think? Is this a feasible option or am I smoking something?

I am and have been a Chiefs fan my entire life. I went to my first game in 2004 and have been addicted ever since. At Arrowhead, "the home of the... CHIEFS", you quickly learn that game-day itself is the true experience, everything from the road trip, to the tailgating before the game, all the way until being one of the last to leave the parking lot is included. Go Chiefs!

  1. Unfortunately Brodie seems destined to be a career backup. Able to come in for short spurts and help out the team but unable to stay healthly long enough to be a started. Unless he bulks up an additional 20 pounds or so I believe that will be his fate.

  2. Yeah, I tend to agree with that.

You ready for some football again this Sunday at Arrowhead?

  3. We’re ready to see Croyle get killed! LOL No, it should be fun but I am slightly afraid for Croyle. Just coming back from an injury, probably being a little rusty and playing behind that right side of the line against the Titans D, ouch! Figure he’ll either tough it out and do decent or get knocked out of the game, and quite possibly any future as a starting QB with the Chiefs. Either way we’re prepared for a loss. Here’s to the hope that we provide another thriller/shocker like we did against the Donkey’s…go Chiefs!

  4. I am excited to get back to Arrowhead! BUT I am afraid for Croyle as well. Those variables that you mentioned are not a good formula for success, esp since Croyle has said that he is still not 100%. I also wonder if the Chiefs are telling him to say that he isn’t 100% so it looks better if he fails…

And YES, I would LOVE to see another surprise victory (like against the Donkeys) as well.

  5. Well, sad to say, I guess I was right. Croyle didn’t “literally” get killed but I think his career as a starter was. There is no possible way we can consider him the future starting QB for this team ever again. He seems like a really good guy, but his body just continues to betray him. I think Huard is on the way out after this season so maybe Croyle can be a solid backup for us. I can’t imagine any team would take the risk starting him with his track record. I wish him the best, just not as our #1 QB. Sorry Croyle!

P.S. Who’s going to be our veteran QB signing this week? Jay Fiedler anyone?
