Finally we can all rest at night again…
- The Brett Favre era in Green Bay is now officially over. But his legendary career is not.The month-long saga has finally come to an end, with the Packers agreeing to trade their future Hall-of-Fame quarterback to the New York Jets, FOXSports.com first reported Wednesday night.
“We’re going to take this one year at a time,” Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum said on a conference call early Thursday morning. “We’re excited to have Brett on the team this year.”[FOXSports]
Also I in the article is says the Favre’s #4 Jets jersey was on sale on the teams website about an hour after the trade was announced. Now THAT is called git-n-r-done!

Man Crushes and Sports
Before I get onto some rules of the “man crush” I decided since recently there has been a lot of talk about man crushes involving Brett Favre I would start there.
![]()
One blogger goes on to confess his love for Brett Favre:
- Dear Brett,I love you. And I always will. You taught me more about myself than I even knew existed. You earmarked each and every one of my formative years with amazing seasons, filled with excitement and thrills.
and goes on to say:
- You cannot play for another team. It just isn’t right.
You have to give it everything you’ve got to convince the Packers to take you back or you need to stay retired. There is no room for anything in the middle.I’m fragile right now, Brett. I want you to know that I support you, but this is too painful to watch all this. So for now, I am going to try to avoid Sportscenter… let me know when this is settled.
Full letter here.
Another blogger has decided he just can’t take it anymore…
- At one point, I might have married Brett Favre. Not that I am averse to the female gender, but, instead, why would I not want to spend the rest of my life with one of the most exciting NFL players and seemingly coolest guy ever?
and breaks up with Favre:
- Today, I am breaking up with Brett.Relationships are built on trust, and Brett has violated that trust. Like any bad relationship, I should have recognized the signs long before it came to this point — the uncertainty of retirement before the 2007 season, how well he played last year, and how well the Packers played as a team last year. Love is blind, and when Brett broke down in tears at his retirement press conference, I took his word he was done for good.
The letter to Brett continues and ends with a “I don’t even want to be friends anymore”. Come on guys, let the man live his life!

Now for the Rules of the Man Crush (via ac)
- Your man crush does not have to play on a team that you cheer for.
- You can not cheer for your man crush when he is facing off against your favorite team NO MATTER WHAT.
- You can not become a fan of a team just because your man crush plays for them.
- There is a limit of having three man crushes per sport.
- You can rid yourself of a man crush for either on- or off-the-field (court/ice/pitch/etc.) conduct.
- A man crush is not a real crush.
So, what Chiefs players do you have man crushes on?

Open Letters to Brett Favre
Open letters to Brett Favre are popping up all over the internet, including some from Kansas City. Eric Barton from The Pitch Blogs has written down his thoughts to Brett. He ask Brett Favre to think back to a game that took place on November 8, 1993.
- You were just a year into the starting gig in Green Bay, and people were still wondering if the kid from Southern Miss who could never seem to throw off his front foot could really lead a team. You were in Kansas City, and on the opposing sideline was none other than Joe Montana.
Eric then goes on to mention that even though Montana didn’t play in that game his presence was felt everywhere in Kansas City.
- You had to notice the Montana jerseys in the crowd. Remember in 1994, when the 49ers came to Arrowhead with Steve Young at the helm? A sign in the crowd said it all: “This is Montana Country, Where the Young do not Survive.” Forget barbecue or fountains, Kansas City was Joe’s town.
And now, as you’re debating a comeback, isn’t that what you want? A town to idolize you?
The article then goes on to say a few other interesting things:
- You’ve also got to be worried about coming to a team with a domineering coach or general manager. Well, not here. Coach Herm Edwards and team President Carl Peterson will roll over for you like a lhasa apsos puppy looking for a belly rub.
more
- you’re surely looking for a team that will bring you one more shot at glory. Well, you won’t find that here, not with the lack of talent on this roster. But like Joe Montana before you, what you’ll find is a team that will idolize you, that will worship the odd collections of consonants that are your last name.
If that is trying to convince Favre to come to KC, I’m not sure that it will work. I have always thought of Favre as the kind of guy who just loves to play the game and I’m not convinced that he would come here just because the team will worship him (or is this just me being naive?). But… I definitely agree on one thing from the above quote, which is the “odd collections of consonants that are your last name”. I mean seriously we all say FAR-VE, so how is it spelled FaVre? Eh, whatever..

Rumor: Favre Wants to Come Back
After retiring from the game of football this last March Brett Favre feels that he still has something to offer.
- Three days after a conference call with Green Bay Packers team officials on Tuesday in which quarterback Brett Favre emphatically expressed his desire to play in 2008, Favre on Friday formally asked for his contractual release from the Packers in a letter, sources close to Favre and the team said.
Favre is also claiming that the Packers almost forced him out.
- When Favre was reminded by the Packers’ brass that it was in March when the quarterback said publicly and privately that he wasn’t 100 percent committed to football, sources said. Favre acknowledged his state of mind at the time, but added that he never felt he was a 100 percent committed in March of previous years, either. Favre felt he had to make a decision to retire because the Packers were pressing him for an answer, a source said.
So now it is Carl Peterson’s turn to decide if he wants to start talking, if Green Bay grants Favre ’s wish that is. As much as Favre has done for them you would think think could grant him his wish, but it’s still about business and it’s all about that $$.

Should Chiefs go after Brett Favre?
There has been a lot of talk about the Brett Favre situation lately and even his possible ties to the Chiefs if the Packers don’t want Favre back (assuming that Favre is coming back). So, should the Chiefs go after Favre?
I have heard a lot of people say some along the lines of “it was a similar situation when Joe Montana came to the Chiefs”. Ok, the fact that they are both older QB’s who are bound for Canton with years of playing for another team is true, but most of similarities end there. When Joe Cool came to the Chiefs the Chiefs were a wining organization with a legitimate chance at the Super Bowl (it would be nice to say that again soon). The fact that he took the Chiefs to the AFC Championship proves this. Now look at the current Chiefs. They just came off of a 4-12 season and are in total rebuilding mode. Even if Favre did have the opportunity to come to Kansas City, would he want to?
Now don’t get me wrong, I would love to see Favre in the red and gold. He would give some instant credibility to the Chiefs offense, but if the Chiefs did decide to go after Favre what would that say about Brodie Croyle? In my opinion the signing of Favre would pretty much be the end of Croyle in KC for the simple reason that when you bring in Brett Favre, you play him from Day 1. The Chiefs seem to still like Brodie to be a legit starting QB in this league and appear to be giving him every opportunity to prove this. If Favre comes in and starts for a year or two you get a situation that is similar to the Steve McNair-Kyle Boller situation of a few years ago (not exactly but close). This to me would signify the Chiefs giving up on Croyle.
If the Chiefs were a legit contender I could see this happening, but if the Carl and Herm really stick to their guns about the rebuilding with young players then they will steer clear of this situation. Personally, I think Brett Favre will stay retired anyways, so this could all prove to be a moot point. Only time will tell.
