Looks like the Chiefs have finally decided to sign an offensive linemen.
The Chiefs agreed to contract terms today with veteran offensive lineman Mike Goff. Goff has some versatility and could wind up starting for the Chiefs at center or right guard.
The 33-year-old Goff played 11 NFL seasons, the first six with Cincinnati and the last five with San Diego. He has been a starter for the past nine seasons.
I really like this signing. Mike Goff seems to be a very solid player and should be an instant upgrade for whatever position he ends up playing on the offensive line.
Some might criticize this signing because of Goff’s age (he’s 33) but I don’t see that as a problem. Even if he only has a few years left in him I think he is worth signing. This also shows that Pioli and Haley want to win now and know that while young is good, you need the right amount of veterans mixed in.
Also, notice another word in that quote, “versatility”. We all know how Pioli loved versatile players in NE and looks to be continuing the trend here in KC.

As all of you know the offensive line is one of the areas that definitly needs some work for the Chiefs to be competitve again. Here I am going to take a look at a few offensive guards that are set to be free agents that could be good pick ups for the Chiefs. ( Don’t forget Free Agency starts at 11:00 CST tonight.)
Brandon Moore
The Jets released guard Brandon Moore today after not wanting to pay him the $7 million roster bonus he was due (they could not get a new deal done). More has six years of experince and has started every game for the Jets for the last four years. Moore is 28 and is leaving his first team that picked him up. That makes him an ideal cadidate for the Chiefs and the kind of player that Scott Pioli loves to sign.
Derrick Dockery
The Bill made Derrick Dockery the highest paid guard in the NFL two years ago and have now released him. Dockery is also 28 years old and has 6 years of NFL experience. He started his career with the Washington Redskins making his first in his fourth game as a rookie and he hasn’t missed a game since. Dockery also is pretty close to fitting the Pioli mold for signing a free agent (age), but he could command the biggest money out of all of the guards on the market.
Kendall Simmons
The Steelers released starting guard Kendall Simmons today. Simmons was placed on injuried reserve after he had an Achilles tendon tear in the fourth game of the year. He was a first round pick of the Steelers in 2002, became the Steelers starting guard (RG) as a rookie and has started every game that he has played in. Simmons missed the entire 2004 season and was placed on IR that year. He is 29 years old and has 7 years in the NFL under his belt.
Well, to my knowlegde those are the top three free agent guards availbe to the Chiefs. Who do think the Chiefs should sign? One of these three or someone not on the list?

Well, the Chiefs are 0-3 and need a win really bad. Luckily they play a team that gives them a chance to win this week. Wait… who are playing this week? The Broncos? crap…
(So you’re telling me there’s a chance!! - Dumb and Dumber)
Chiefs Offense Line vs Denver Defensive Line: Neither line has been impressive thus far and it should be interesting to see which group wants it more. The battle will be won in the trenches.
Dwayne Bowe vs Champ Bailey: Dwayne Bowe has bounced back pretty nicely from his lackluster first game and will now be facing one of the premiere corners in the NFL. Good Luck Bowe, you may need it.
Denver WR vs Chiefs Secondary: Denver has some very talented receivers. Brandon Marshall (who needs to beat corners and not ladies) had 18 catches in one game and Eddie Royal seem to be a very talented rookie who is fitting in very nicely for Denver. Surtain (if he plays), Flowers, Carr, and the rest of the Chiefs DB’s will have their hands full.
Herm Edwards vs Chan Gailey: I have been wondering all year if Chan is really calling the plays or if Herm has been taking over (because of the similiarity of the play calling from last year at times), so it will be interesting to see if Herm lets Gailey call his own plays. Also, with veteran Damon Huard starting this week it makes me wonder if they might “open up the offense” a little more for him.
Herm Edwards vs Mike Shanahan: Who is darker? : Herm of course has the natural advantage, but with Shanahan’s fake baking, you never know who will win this battle. We’ll have to wait to see who comes out ahead on this one.
Carl Peterson vs the Fans: How many paper bags will be at the game and how many times will Carl get flipped the bird at the game by the fans. Also in this battle of the fans versus Carl Peterson you have to wonder how many fans will be there by the end of the game supporing Carl and his Chiefs.
