Middle-ish week update

I know I really haven’t said much since Monday so I thought I would try to catch up.  (BTW I have been working on tryng to get this site to load faster, does anyone else have problems with loading time here? PLEASE let me know if youd do)

First off, I wanted to congradulate Arrowhead Pride for first off putting together this great post on the Chiefs (in)ability to draft defensive players over the last SEVEN YEARS, and secondly for having Dr. Z @ Sports Illistrated take notice. Great work Chris and to the creator of this post ‘DThomasReigns’.

Roster Moves This Week:

Dantrell Savage has been released so apparenlty the Chiefs are happy (enough) with K-Rob returning kicks and punts… for now at least.

The Chiefs have added LB Curtis Gatewood and DE Andy Studebaker.

Gatewood (6-2, 248) signed with Washington as a rookie free agent out of Vanderbilt in 2008. He appeared in three preseason contests with the Redskins before being released. He has spent nine weeks on Washington’s practice squad this season. The Memphis, Tennessee native played in 47 games (24 starts) and tallied 110 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, and 10.5 sacks in his four-year career at Vanderbilt. Gatewood was a Class 5A first team all-region selection and defensive MVP as a prep at White Station High School in Memphis, Tennessee.

Studebaker (6-3, 248) was the third of Philadelphia’s three sixth-round draft choices (203rd overall) in the 2008 NFL Draft. The Wheaton College (IL) product spent the last 11 weeks on Philadelphia’s practice squad. He appeared in all four of the Eagles preseason tilts and, but was released prior to the start of the regular season.

The Congreville, Illinois native was a NCAA Division III All-America selection at Wheaton College and tallied an NCAA-best 17.5 sacks during his junior season. He finished his career after playing in 28 games (23 starts) and registering 111 tackles, 30.0 sacks, four fumble recoveries, 14 passes defensed and 25 QB pressures. Studebaker prepped at Eureka High School where he was an all-conference tight end and defensive end.

The Chiefs also promoted Jackie Battle from the practice squad to the 53 man roster and added DT Antwon Burton to the practice squad.

Burton (6-2, 308) has seen duty in seven NFL contests over the last two seasons with Denver, tallying nine tackles (five solo). He originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Denver in 2006, spending time on the Broncos practice squad before joining the 53-man roster for the final eight games of the 2006 season. Burton saw his most extensive NFL action a season ago, appearing in six contests and registering eight tackles (five solo) before spending the final seven weeks of 2007 on Denver’s developmental squad. He attended training camp with Cincinnati in 2008, but was released prior to the start of the regular season.

As a Chiefs fan we all remember DT and what he meant to this team. Now, his son, Derrion, is making a name for himself in the Kansas City High School ranks, becoming quite an unstoppable force. Bob Gretz did a great article about it and it is a MUST read.

That’s all for now, have a great day Chiefs fans!

No more BJ’s for the Chiefs, don’t worry it’s a good thing.

SInce the Chiefs have signed WR Mark Bradely, who was released from the Chicago Bears, they had to release someone, and guess who that someone was…

B.J. Sams.   Yes, you’re telling me.  It was about time for this sum bee to be shown the door. I already thought he should have been gone, and with Savage having that great return against the Donks when we needed it most that just put the icing on the cake.

Savage will take punt return duties and Savage and Jamal Charles will be returning kickoffs. This week just keeps getting better!  Now, if we just just keep this momentum going and take it to Carolina!

Git-r-done Chiefs!

Chiefs sign former Bear WR Mark Bradley

October 1, 2008 by bigknoxy · Leave a Comment

The Chiefs have signed for Bears WR Mark Bradley. This guy was drafted in the 2nd round so he obvious has some talent and the Bears are not really a place where WR’s go to thrive (same could probably be said here I guess).

Anyways, here is a little bit about him from the KC Star

A second-round pick of the Bears in 2005, Bradley’s career has mostly been a disappointment.

He had his best season when he was a rookie, making 18 catches. That number fell to 14 the following season and six last year.

He was released by Chicago this year after playing in two games and not making a catch.

Here are his stats (not much to look at). I have also heard that Bradley had some sort of ACL injury in the past, just throwing that out there for whatever it’s worth.

I like the idea that the Chiefs are at least trying to improve the talent level at WR and I belive he is 26 so he is still a young guy that fits with this youth movement. Hope it works out, but not getting my hopes up yet.

Chiefs make final roster cuts

August 30, 2008 by bigknoxy · Leave a Comment
Filed under: News

In addition to the roster cuts I posted before here is the final list:
FB Chris Manderino

OC Rob Smith
OG Tre Stallings
OG Travis Leffew
OG Edwin Harrison
OT Anthony Alabi
OT Will Svitek

TE Michael Allan
TE Michael Merritt (PUP)

WR Kevin McMahan
WR Sergiori Joachim
WR Jabari Arthur
WR Bobby Sippio

DE Jason Parker
DE Johnny Dingle
DT Derek Lokey

LB EJ Kuale
LB Steve Octavien
LB LeRue Rumph

CB Rashad Barksdale

S Khayyam Burns

PK Connor Barth

Thanks to BobGretz.com.

As I said before none of these roster cuts really surprised me too much. I know a lot of you might be disappointed about Bobby Sip-Sip-Sip-E-O, but even after his great TD catch last game it was obviously too little too late.

So we are keeping both Sams and Savage? Interesting…

Please post any comments that you have about the roster cuts below.

Chiefs Begin Roster Cuts

Later tonight all cuts will be final and so far here is who has been cut [WPI]:
1. OC Rob Smith
2. OG Travis Leffew
3. OG Edwin Harrison
4. OT Anthony Alabi
5. TE Michael Allan
6. TE Michael Merritt (PUP)
7. WR Kevin McMahan
8. WR Sergio Joachim
9. WR Jabari Arthur
10. DE Jason Parker
11. DE Johnny Dingle
12. DT Derek Lokey
13. LB EJ Kuale
14. LB Steve Octavien
15. CB Rashad Barksdale
16. S Khayyam Burns
17. PK Connor Barth

I am not really shocked by any of these. I am a little surprised by the Michael Allan cut which means we are keeping Chan’s boy, J.P. Foschi, but I am okay with that. As it got later into the preseason Foschi looked better while blocking but his pass catching never impressed me, but that’s fine because that is why we have T.G. and Cottom.

That’s all for now. I am out of town but I will try to keep you all posted as much as possible.
