Game DayThread - Game 13: Kansas City Chiefs Vs. Denver Broncos
So here is game 13:
The Chiefs are 2-10 after their winning (hhhWHAATT?!?) showing last week against the Raiders and are still on the road this week as they travel to Denver to play the Donkeys. This is a big game for both teams, as the Chiefs would like to keep the streak alive (and sweep the freakin Broncos) and the Donks would like to distance themselves in the not so tight AFC West race. This game could also have great implications for the playoffs division race 2009 NFL Draft.
For the Chiefs to have a chance in this game one of the keys for them will be to make sure their running game gets on track early (LJ needs another game like last time we played them!) and Thigpen needs to keep playing like he has been the last several weeks. This should be a decent game for Thigpen to “back on track” (don’t really think he got off track TOO much) after a tough matchup against the Raiders secondary last week. Good Luck Thiggy.
One thing I am worried about in this game is the Raiders passing attack. These are the same guys who put up a ton of yards against the Chiefs in the first meeting. Can the Chiefs defense pull another “bend but don’t break this week? I sure hope so. Those rookie corners need to have big games today.
(Slipping on the RED colored glasses) Looking at this from a positive perspective, if the Chiefs can get that running game going, cash in their red zone and TO opportunites, and the defense stops them every onnce in a while I think we have a shot here. The Chiefs MUST win the turnover battle and CASH IN on the TO’s they do create if they want to stand a chance. That’s a lot of “IFs”, but I like our chances this week against a Broncos team that is, well, unpredictable, you never know what you are going to get.
As always please post any comments, pictures, or whatever in the comment section below before, during or after the game. If you see something that you hated (or loved) let the rest of us know!
I’ll be yelling from my couch this week, hoping very much for a Chiefs victory.
GO CHIEFS!!

How do the Chiefs beat the Broncos?
I was just thinking how bad I want the Chiefs to beat the Donkeys, er Broncos, this weekend so I decided to come up with what I think the Chiefs have to do to beat the dreaded Denver Broncos.
Run, run run: The Chiefs need to establish the running game early against the Broncos and keep pounding the rock until Denver proves that they can stop it. There was a reason LJ ran 28 times for 198 yards (and that the Chiefs rushed for over 200 yards as a team), and it’s not because Denver is good at stopping the run.
Control the clock: This goes hand in hand with running the ball. If you can successfully run the ball it keeps the clock moving and keeps Denver (most of the time) high octane offense off of the field. Simply, if the Broncos don’t have the ball then it makes it really hard for them to score.
Turnovers: The Chiefs need to be at least one up on the Broncos in the turnover category if they want to stand a chance. Denver’s offense has been able to pick up yards in bunches in the past and the last thing they need is a short field.
Big plays: The Chiefs defense and special teams needs to bring its ‘A’ game here and not allow Denver to have any big plays (long TD runs, long TD pass or long kick returns). Even if the Chiefs can employ the ‘bend but don’t break technique’ and hold Denver to field goals instead of TD’s that would be great.
If the Chiefs can do all of this then I think they stand a very good chance to win this game and finally break the Invesco field curse…
What do you guys think? Will the Chiefs beat the Broncos?

Game Bets: A Broncos fan who lost a bet
So a guy I work with made a bet with another coworker about the Chiefs vs Broncos game. The terms were this: If the Broncos won she had to wear his Shannon Sharpe jersey and if the Chiefs won, he had to wear a Chiefs hat. We all agreed that letting him wear just a hat was letting him off easy, so she brought in a sweater.
This bet was made over the summer and honestly I’m surprised she stuck with it after the way the Chiefs (and Broncos) started the season. She had a lot of “marbles” to stick with it on this bet.
Oh, I wanted to say one more thing, “HA HA!”
GO CHIEFS!!

Game 4 Chiefs vs. Broncos- What I think…
Photo from ESPN.com
This game was AWESOME. I have to tell you being at Arrowhead for this game was just amazing and I hope to see many more like this.
WHAT I LIKED
Derrick Johnson: DJ finally had that breakout game we were all waiting for this season. Johnson had an interception, forced fumble, and made 6 tackles in the game. He was all over the field making plays. Go DJ! It’s ya Birthday!
Larry Johnson: LJ had a big game this week, and that makes two weeks in a row he got-r-done. 198 yards with a 7.1 yards per attempt average… enough said. Good Job LJ! Keep it up!
Offensive Line: Overall the Chiefs had 213 rushing yards, averaged 6.5 rushing yards per attempt and only allowed one sack. Great job guys. Also, Herb Taylor filled in and did a very nice job.
Chiefs Defense: Forcing turnovers and making big plays, even the TD catch was well defended, you just can’t do much about it when a guy makes that catch. Flowers and Carr both had very nice games and it was also refreshing to see the Chiefs actually get some pressure on the QB, rushing Cutler into some bad throws.
As always there were a couple things that I didn’t like so much.
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE
Gave up too many passing yards: The Chiefs gave up 361 passing yards. As you can see I am kind of stretching a little in looking for things I didn’t like. Some of these yards were from toward the end of the game when the Broncos were trying to score fast, but either way that is a lot of yards to give up.
NIck Novack: While his kickoffs were pretty good this game (a heck of a lot better than before) he still missed a field goal. Just because it didn’t matter in the end for this game, doesn’t mean that it won’t the next time. On must Sunday’s this year the Chiefs will need every point they can get.
Branden Albert Injury: This really just sucks. For a guy that was never injured before it sure sucks that four games into his pro career he has already had two injuries. I’m just glad it wasn’t his ankle again.
I tried to limit my positives a bit in this post because I don’t want to get too excited yet, but that was a great win for the Chiefs, hopefully one that will build the confidence of this young team and have them coming out ready to play hard again next week.
GO CHIEFS!

Chiefs beat up Broncos - and I am PUMPED!!
It has been SO LONG since I have felt this way I almost forgot what it felt like.
Now THAT is Chiefs football; forcing turnovers, LJ running for big yardage, D. Bowe and Tony G. getting TD’s and beating the Donkeys at home! That is what it is all about!! And it was so good to actually get to talk trash on the Donko fans and then have the Chiefs back it up on the field.
Also, if you weren’t at the game I just want you all to know that Arrowhead was rocking today. It reminded me of the way to used to be and when I say that I’m refering to stuff like it being so loud that I couldn’t hear what my friend, who was yelling in my ear, was saying because it was so loud. Now, it wasn’t that loud today, and I would say that is mainly because the stadium wasn’t full, but the atmosphere was back, and you could tell the players were feeding off of the energy!
I will of course post up tomorow my likes and dislikes of the game tomorrow morning like always, and this weeks the ‘likes’ will be MUCH better than prevous weeks!! That’s al for now… GO CHIEFS!!!!
(The picture above is one I took today at the game… I will be posting up some more sometime in the next few days for your viewing pleasure)

Game DayThread - Game 4: Kansas City Chiefs vs Denver Donkeys, er Broncos
So here is game 4:
The Chiefs are 0-3 and the Broncos are 3-0, do I need to say much more? The Broncos are obviously one of the best offenses in the NFL, but also have one of the worst defenses in the league. If the Chiefs can’t score quite a few points in this game then they are definitely in trouble.
One of the keys for the Chiefs will be not letting the Broncos get out to an early lead, which could be very hard. I don’t have the stats in front of me, but I read something like this: The Broncos have score 20 some points in the first quarter so far this season and 40 some points in the second quarter this season. That is impressive. On the flip side let’s just say I believe the Chiefs have been in the single digits in the first half this season.
So if the Chiefs can hold the Donks and not allow them to get out to a big lead then they might have a chance, but if Denver gets a big lead this game could be over pretty quick.
As always please post any comments, pictures, or whatever in the comment section below before, during or after the game. If you see something that you hated (or loved) let the rest of us know!
I’ll be be tailgating it up this week and yelling for all of us from my seat in Arrowhead.
GO CHIEFS!!

Want to come to the game Sunday?
Just thought I would share (in case you couldn’t guess… lol) that there are still tickets available to the Chiefs game this Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium versus the Denver Broncos. From kcchiefs.com
- A limited number of tickets are available for Sunday’s Chiefs game vs. Denver. These tickets became available when the Broncos returned a portion of their allotment on Tuesday.
So… are these really just the tickets the Broncos returned? Maybe some of them are, but I bet most are just tickets that the Chiefs couldn’t sell. By the way, if you are really looking for tickets I would check eBay first because I am sure you could find some for less than face value. In fact I’ll just list some here for you:

1994 Chiefs vs Broncos Game on NFL Network this week
I was just informed that the Chiefs vs Broncos game from 1994 is going to be airing this week on NFL Network. This is the classic game that had Montana as the Chiefs QB and Elway as the Broncos QB. I don’t really want to say anymore just in case you don’t know what happened or you don’t remember what I’m talking about. I have a feeling most of you know exactly what game this is though.

Needless to say I will be recording this.
Here are the showings:
The 1994 Monday night game between the Chiefs and Broncos at Mile High Stadium will be shown on NFLN Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 1:30 a.m. and Saturday at noon.
