Game DayThread - Game 12: Kansas City Chiefs Vs. Oakland Raiders

So here is game 12:

The Chiefs are 1-10 after their showing last week against the Bills and are hitting the road this week to play the Raiders.  This is a big game for both teams, as the Chiefs would like to WIN and so would the Raiders.  This game could also have great implications for the playoffs division race 2009 NFL Draft.

For the Chiefs to have a chance in this game one of the keys for them will be to make sure their running game gets on track early (LJ get back on track dude!)  and Thigpen needs to keep playing like he has been the last several weeks. This should be a decent game for Thigpen to “back on track” (don’t really think he got off track) after a tough matchup against the Bills last week. Good Luck Thiggy.

One thing I am worried about in this game is the Raiders rushing attack. These are the same guys who rushed for 300 yards against the Chiefs in the first meeting and the Chiefs are coming off of a game where they gave up 54 points (a franchise worst) to a Bills offense that is not potent to say the least.

(Slipping on the RED colored glasses) Looking at this from a positive perspective, if the Chiefs can get that running game going, cash in their red zone and TO opportunites, and the defense stops them every onnce in a while I think we have a shot here. The Chiefs MUST win the turnover battle and CASH IN on the TO’s they do create if they want to stand a chance. That’s a lot of “IFs”, but I like our chances this week against a Raiders team that is, well, the Raiders.

As always please post any comments, pictures, or whatever in the comment section below before, during or after the game. If you see something that you hated (or loved) let the rest of us know!

I’ll be yelling from my couch this week, hoping very much for a Chiefs victory.

GO CHIEFS!!

So while I am at the games I like to take some pictures. I have been meaning to post pictures of previous games on here, but just haven’t, so I decided to just buckle down and git-r-did.

Here are some pictures from my game day experience at Arrowhead Stadium, everything from tailgating to the game itself.

Let me know what you think. Is there anything specific thing you would like to see pictures of for next time?

Thoughts about the Chiefs/Raiders game… from a Cowboys fan

After this I will try to move on from the Raiders loss and focus on the upcoming game in ATL, but I can’t make any promises.

Late Sunday night while I was angerly typing up my What the CRAP!?!? We just lost to the RAIDERS at HOME! post, I got an email from a good friend of mine, who happens to be a Cowboys fan. He had some thoughts on the game. Here is what he said:

I thought your team would get a fairly easy win today.  Guess not.  The Quarterback situation is just killing you guys.  They wont do anything all year without someone that makes smart decisions and Thigpin ain’t your boy for that.  HE SUCKS!!!  Larry just doesn’t seem to have it anymore.  Better luck to you guys next weekend.

It was good to hear an “outsiders” perspective of our team, and honestly I have to say that I agree with what he said. I thought we would have an easy win, Thigpen played poorly and LJ didn’t look like his old self. Also, let’s face it, Cowboy fans should know QB play pretty well, they were lucky enough to find their diamond in the rough, Tony Romo, after suffering through a tenure with Drew “old balls” Bledsoe.

What do you think? Do you agree?

Game 2 Chiefs vs. Raiders - What I think…

This game just sucked to watch. At least I had a good time before and after the game in the parking lot.  Here is what I think about the game.

WHAT I LIKED

Dwayne Bowe: D. Bowe seems to be back this week. While he didn’t have a huge game he was solid, led the team in receptions, and didn’t seem to be wearing the stone hands as he was in week 1. Keep it up Bowe.

Tank Tyler::The Tank seemed to have a pretty decent game. He actually lead the team in tackles (tied with DJ) with 8. For a defensive lineman to lead the team in tackles is usually a good thing, so we’ll just leave it at that.

Forcing Turnovers: The Chiefs Defense was able to force two turnovers again this week.  If they keep getting turnovers eventually they will start to covert them into points, right?

As always there were also a few things that didn’t impress me so much.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE

Nick Novak: As I have said before I don’t see why we didn’t keep Connar Barth. Novak’s kickoffs went to the 10-15 yard line today allowing the Raiders to have good field position each time we kicked off. If Herm wants to play ball control and feidl position he needs someone who can get the ball deep.

Rushing Defense: The Raiders had 300 rushing yards!!  What else do I need to say?

3rd Down Efficiency:The Chiefs were 4 of 15 on converting 3rd downs into first downs. If you want to win games you need to convert a higher percentage of these and keep your defense off the field longer.

Rushing Offense: The Chiefs averaged 2.9 yards per rush versus the Raiders. You will almost never win a game averaging less than 3 yards/attempt.

Zero Sacks: I realize that Oakland ran the ball a LOT (47 times) but this is not good. If you can’t get pressure on the QB it won’t matter how good your coverage is, someone will get open.  Plus it’s not like Oakland has a great o-line. I would call them average at best, and they held the Chiefs to zero sacks.

That is all I am going to put, but we all know there could a lot more on that list. Hopefully the coaches will focus on some of these things and have the troops ready to play at the ATL.

Go Chiefs!

What the CRAP!?!? We just lost to the RAIDERS at HOME!

So, I have cooled off a little bit from today’s loss to the freakin’ Oakland Raiders… Ok, maybe I haven’t.

I honestly, like many other people, thought that the Chiefs would kill the Raiders. Alright, I really didn’t think we would smoke them, but I thought we would for sure beat them AT HOME!  Does Arrowhead even mean anything to the Chiefs organization anymore?  Arrowhead used to be one of the hardest places for opposing teams to play, but now even the lowly Raiders can come into our house, kick our dog, and spank our hides.

If Herm wants to keep his job he better start wining at home. We as Chiefs fans have been very patient over the last, oh 10-20 years, and one thing that we could count on is that we would win at home. Arrowhead Stadium “the loudest stadium in the NFL”. I used to be proud of that statement, but anymore it tends to more of a joke.  How can you be the loudest stadium in the NFL when you have fans leaving early from the game because they can see that we don’t stand a chance to win the game?

Well, for now I think I will just leave it at that, but there will be more to come from me about this loss, including my usual Monday Morning Thoughts article along with the ‘What I think…” article where I will tell what I liked/disliked about the Chiefs/Raiders game…

We lost the Raiders at Arrowhead… (sigh…)

Game DayThread - Game 2: Kansas City Chiefs vs Oakland Raiders

It is finally here! The home opener! And I am THERE MAN!!
As you can see I am pretty excited to go to Chiefs games that actually matter again. I’m also very excited to see what the Chiefs can do against the hated Raiders.
As you know, the Raiders got dominated buy the Donkeys last week and if that same team that showed up last Monday night shows up at Arrowhead today we are in for an awesome game! Lol… at least for us Chiefs fans.
With all this talk of a possible two QB system it will be interesting to see if we do end up using Thigpen at all. My guess for this game is no, but you never know what will happen.

As always please post any comments, pictures, or whatever in the comment section below before, during or after the game. If you see something that you hated (or loved) let the rest of us know!

I’ll be cheering from the stands for all of us!

This Sunday is the home opener for the Kansas City Chiefs as they take on the Oakland Raiders… it’s freakin RAIDER WEEK!

I know “Raider Week” doesn’t really mean what it used to because let’s face it two teams coming off of 4-12 seasons isn’t a lot to get excited about for some… but I am PUMPED!  I can tell you that me and my crew will be there at the butt crack o’ dawn on Sunday banging down the doors (or the parking gates) to get in.  It’s only Thursday, but man am I am ready for Sunday!!

What about you guys… are you excited about the game this Sunday?   I know my boy Ryan from Iowa is ready to make that long trip in!!

p.s. We park in the Red lot right in front of the staduim so come say ‘hey’ if you see us! We will be the ones wearing red and eating BBQ.

Chiefs vs Raiders - Matchups to Watch

damon_huard

Guess what?  It’s RAIDERS WEEK! Here are some of the matchups that I find interesting for this weeks Kansas City Chiefs vs Oakland Raiders game.

Damon Huard vs Raiders Secondary:This defensive backfield on paper is suppose to be one of the best in the NFL, but after last weeks drubbing at the hands of the Broncos they may be out to prove something this week. Can wily veteran Damon Huard combat this by finding and hitting the open man?  I guess we’ll see.

Dwayne Bowe vs Nnamdi Asomugha: Is Bowe going to come back to his rookie season form this week? Even if he does Asomugha is one of the better cornerbacks in the NFL and this matchup will definitely be one to watch.

JaMarcus Russell vs Chiefs Defensive Line: Russell is a big QB, but he also has the ability to get outside of the pocket to make plays. This will be a big test to see if the Chiefs’ defensive line, which is filled with early round draft picks, can keep him contained.

Raiders running backs vs Chiefs Rush Defense: The Raiders have three running backs that they will send after you, but the main two are Justin Fargas and Darren McFadden. Both averaged over 5 yards per attempt and together rushed for 143 yards against the Broncos in a losing effort.  That 143 yards is actually more than the entire stable of Broncos running backs had  that game so the Chiefs rushing defense will have its hands full.

What do you think of these matchups?  Are there any other matchups you think will be interesting?
