Looks like Greg Wesley found a new home already. What does Al Davis like about former Chiefs? I guess any chance to make the Chiefs (or any other division foe) look bad is worth a shot for him. Hope it doesn’t work out so well for him this time.

Veteran safety Greg Wesley’s first career foray into free agency didn’t last long.A league source tells us that Wesley has signed a one-year deal with the Oakland Raiders, only days after he was cut by the Chiefs.

Chiefs release Greg Wesley

With the youth movement in full swing in Kansas City, the Chiefs cut a veteran Friday in a move that had been anticipated since the end of the 2007 season.
That’s because safety Greg Wesley, given his release yesterday, never really wanted to play in Kansas City the last two seasons. He was nearly traded to the Denver Broncos before the start of the 2007 season, but that potential deal (a fourth-round pick) was voided by Kansas City.

The Chiefs then offered Wesley to the Houston Texans, but they also passed. Kansas City was forced to retain the veteran safety until now.

Wesley was no longer a fit thanks to the development of 2006 seventh-round pick Jarrad Page and the selection of North Carolina State safety DaJuan Morgan, who has an outside shot to start opposite Page come September.

Despite his release, Wesley played eight seasons with the Chiefs and was known for being a hard hitter and a play maker in the secondary. His skill level diminished somewhat the last two seasons however, as he battled injuries.

With Wesley’s departure, the Chiefs appears to be set at safety with Page, Morgan, Bernard Pollard and veteran Jon McGraw.
