Kolby Smith out for season with injury
Man the injury bug continues in Kansas City as Kolby Smith, who was filling in for the suspended Larry Johnson is now out for the season.
- Chiefs running back Kolby Smith will miss the rest of this season with a knee injury, coach Herm Edwards said after Sunday’s 30-27 overtime loss to Tampa Bay.
Also, in other injury news there was a woman hit by a car in the parking lot after the game at Arrowhead. It may be wise to stay away from 1 Arrowhead Drive if you value your health at all.
(No, I’m not joking and yes, she is okay)
We wish you the best Kolby. (and good luck Jamaal Charles)

The injury bugs bites… and it bites HARD!
I haven’t seen anything after something so hard since I watched Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. Okay, that might be a bit of a stretch, but for a young team that really needs to get used to playing with each other so they can gel, this is not good. I was listening to the radio earlier and I heard that for sure 10, maybe 11, Chiefs will not even suite up for the Chiefs/Dolphins game this Saturday.
Here is what I’m talking about. Out of the game Saturday night will be:
- RB Jamaal Charles (shoulder)
- TE Brad Cottam (shoulder)
- WR Kevin Robinson (knee)
- LB Donnie Edwards (hamstring)
- LB Demorrio Williams (hand)
- CB Tyron Brackenridge (hamstring)
- DE Trevor Johnson (concussion)
- LT Branden Albert (foot)
- LB Napoleon Harris (knee)
- S Jon McGraw (shoulder.)
- RT Damion McIntosh (ankle) - game time decision
If you consider this list just represents who will be out for this game and doesn’t include other players who have missed time due to injury it can really get you worried. Don’t forget about other players that missed time in camp like Tamba Hali and Glenn Dorsey just to name a few.
How often has the first team offensive line actually played together this preseason? Not much. I know going into camp Herm made it a point to get the O-Line to play together as much as possible especially since they were young and none of them had played much together before. It looks like that just wasn’t in the cards this year though and really the same thing could be said about the D-Line, although they look to be finally rounding into shape as Dorsey is back and ready to go.
Basically to me this boils down to depth. In some positions the Chiefs could get by with their depth (Safety, RB, TE) but in other positions it gets really slim (LB, WR, OL). In fact the LB depth could be a major cause of concern as I have heard the Chiefs are thinking about starting out in a base nickel defense for the upcoming game in Miami. Obviously that concerns me from a depth standpoint but this could turn out be a good thing as well. This could give DaJuan Morgan, who the Chiefs have been very high on thus far, a chance to come in instead of another CB and that would allow either Morgan or Pollard to play closer to the line of scrimmage and makes plays.
So, with all of that said I’m not sure how all of this will affect the Chiefs in the regular season, but I think we all agree that we need to find some repellent for that injury bug… don’t let it bite ya!!
