Shanahan laughs off coaching rumors

So it looks like Adam Schefter was right…  Well, he is at least confirming his side of the story. Seems pretty convincing to me.

NFL.com Blogs » Blog Archive Shanahan laughs off coaching rumors «.

Late Friday afternoon, when multiple reports surfaced that the Kansas City Chiefs and Mike Shanahan were close to a deal that would make him the team’s next head coach, the former Denver Broncos coach couldn’t be found. He was missing for a brief time, his cell phone going directly to voice mail.

Shanahan quickly found out the fuss he indirectly and unknowingly had created. When he walked off the golf course and into the clubhouse after playing 18 holes, multiple golfers asked Shanahan if it was true that he was closing in on a deal with the Chiefs.

Shanahan laughed. He had heard the rumors since Thursday morning, when members of his former coaching staff began calling to ask him if it were true that he was going to Kansas City.

Also, it looks like Shanahan doesn’t have much interesting in coming to the Chiefs either:

As Shanahan told the people in the golf clubhouse, there was nothing new Friday that hadn’t been true on Thursday. He hadn’t had any contact with the Chiefs, didn’t plan to have any contact with the Chiefs and wouldn’t be coaching the Chiefs.

Well, I must admit that while I am going to accept whoever Pioli hires (as stated when we hired Pioli I am going to trust him until he proves otherwise) I am not upset at all over this. Shanahan is a good coach, but over the last 10 years he has one playoff victory and I expect more than that from a ‘great coach’.

If there is some 180 degree turnaround and the Chiefs do end up hiring Shanahan I will be okay with it, but at the moment I am fine with this.

Also,Chris Mortensen lost a lot credibility regarding the Chiefs and the NFL as far as I am concerned.

Chiefs fire Herm Edwards: Mike Shanahan near a deal to become Chiefs head coach

Coach Shanahan

Chiefs fire Edwards; Shanahan next

Well, it is looking like that report that came out Wednesday could be right afterall.

Herm has been fired and it looks like the next head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs could be Mike Shanahan.

The Chiefs have been in negotiations to land Shanahan as their next coach and a deal is near, league sources told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

That is all they are saying at the moment about Shanahan and the Chiefs and I will let you guys know the second I hear a deal has been struck (if one is struck).

In the mean time here is a little more on the Herm Edwards firing:

“On behalf of my family, I want to thank Herm for his service to the Chiefs,” Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt said in a team statement. “After careful deliberation over the last week, Scott and I decided that it was in the best interests of the Chiefs to move forward in a different direction.

“This was not an easy decision. Herm is an outstanding football coach and a man of integrity. We appreciate his leadership over the past three seasons, and we wish him all the best in the future.”

This pretty much sums up Herm’s time in KC.

Edwards came to Kansas City from the Jets and made the playoffs in his first season, when the team was 9-7. But he was under fire after the team finished 4-12 in 2007. Team management gave him its support, but expected a run at the playoffs. Instead, the team went 2-14, leaving Edwards’ fate up in the air.

In Edwards’ three seasons in Kansas City, only 3 teams had worse records: Detroit, Oakland and St. Louis.

I really like Herm as a person I just feel it was the right time for a change to be made. I wish you all of the best Herm.

Mike Shanahan Next Chiefs Head Coach?

The rumor mill is spinning more than it has in a while her in KC and it is saying that Mike Shanahan could be the next head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Mike Shanahan Could be Next Chiefs Head Coach - NBC Action News KSHB-TV 41.

NBC Action Sports has learned that the Chiefs are getting very close to naming their new head coach.

While we can’t confirm it, we’re hearing that it sounds like Mike Shanahan could be the replacement for Herm Edwards. We should find out by Friday.

Jack Harry of NBC in Kansas City is the one that broke this story and coincidentally he is the same guy that said Mike Shanahan ‘reached out’ to the Chiefs back on Jan. 13.  Like most others I wonder how he, of all people, has an insider at One Arrowhead Drive when everything has been kept so air-tight recently.

I’m not sure how I feel about this. Shanahan’s record speaks for itself without Elways (only one playoff victory in the last 10 years) but as I said before I will trust Pioli is making the right decision until it is otherwise shown.

Shany “The Rat” could be our next coach Chiefs fans, what do you think?

Chiefs vs Denver- Matchups to Watch

Well, the Chiefs are 0-3 and need a win really bad. Luckily they play a team that gives them a chance to win this week.  Wait… who are playing this week?  The Broncos?  crap…
(So you’re telling me there’s a chance!!  - Dumb and Dumber)

Chiefs Offense Line vs Denver Defensive Line: Neither line has been impressive thus far and it should be interesting to see which group wants it more. The battle will be won in the trenches.

Dwayne Bowe vs Champ Bailey: Dwayne Bowe has bounced back pretty nicely from his lackluster first game and will now be facing one of the premiere corners in the NFL. Good Luck  Bowe, you may need it.

Denver WR vs Chiefs Secondary: Denver has some very talented receivers. Brandon Marshall (who needs to beat corners and not ladies) had 18 catches in one game and Eddie Royal seem to be a very talented rookie who is fitting in very nicely for Denver. Surtain (if he plays), Flowers, Carr, and the rest of the Chiefs DB’s will have their hands full.

Herm Edwards vs Chan Gailey: I have been wondering all year if Chan is really calling the plays or if Herm has been taking over (because of the similiarity of the play calling from last year at times), so it will be interesting to see if Herm lets Gailey call his own plays. Also, with veteran Damon Huard starting this week it makes me wonder if they might “open up the offense” a little more for him.

Herm Edwards vs Mike Shanahan:  Who is darker? : Herm of course has the natural advantage, but with Shanahan’s fake baking, you never know who will win this battle. We’ll have to wait to see who comes out ahead on this one.

Carl Peterson vs the Fans: How many paper bags will be at the game and how many times will Carl get flipped the bird at the game by the fans. Also in this battle of the fans versus Carl Peterson you have to wonder how many fans will be there by the end of the game supporing Carl and his Chiefs.
