Dorsey’s knee sprain not serious, Chiefs say
According to the KC Star Glenn Dorsey’s knee isn’t as bad as they thought it was… WHEW!!!
- Glenn Dorsey’s knee injury isn’t as bad as the Chiefs initially feared.Their top draft pick has a sprained knee and won’t play in Thursday’s preseason opener against the Bears in Chicago. But they are hopeful he could play in the following game on Aug. 16 against Arizona at Arrowhead Stadium.
I don’t know about you, but I just let out a huge sigh of relief. It still sucks, but it could have been much worse.

Branden Albert & Glenn Dorsey Both Injured
As a fan this just sucks so much. Both first rounders are injured. I guess now we will see what Tank Tyler and Herb Taylor are made of.
Chiefs officials here for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies say the best case scenario is rookie left tackle Brandon Albert will miss three to four weeks because of a foot injury.
That makes his presence for the New England regular season opener very much in doubt.[Gretz]
and some more good news…
- The more likely scenario is that Albert will miss four or five weeks. If the injury heals slowly, then it could be six weeks. It’s a ligament injury and does not involves any bones, so it’s nothing like the foot injury suffered last year by RB Larry Johnson. Albert will continue to lift weights and work his upper body, but obviously cardio conditioning will suffer. In several weeks he’ll begin work on the stationary bike and then will progress to work in a rehab pool.[Gretz]

Chiefs’ top pick Dorsey hurts knee
Well, in a matter of days both Chiefs 1st round draft picks have been injured… son of a bee sting!!! I don’t even know what to say about this. Hopefully this isn’t the kind of year its going to be…
- Rookie defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey, the Chiefs’ top draft pick and the centerpiece of their rebuilding effort, injured his left knee during the annual Family Fun Night practice Saturday.Coach Herm Edwards described the injury as a sprain
“He’s probably going to be week to week,’’ Edwards said. “They won’t know until they do all of the MRIs and all of that. They’ll find out what’s going on. But I don’t think it’s serious.’’[KC Star]
Tank Tyler, a third-round draft pick last year, will replace Dorsey in the starting lineup. Herb Taylor, a sixth-round pick last year, is replacing Albert. Taylor played in one game on offense as a reserve last year.

Dwayne Bowe on training camp
Dwayne Bowe talks about training camp in his most recent blog post.
- We have been in training camp for a little over a week and what we all know and realize is the time is the make or break you time. The days are hot and practices are no joke. It has been a hard and tiring week but the team looks good and we are working hard as a unit to make things happen. My second NFL Training Camp is going well and we are ready to make moves.
To read it all click on the link above to D Bo’s blog. Keep up the hard work D Bo, we all know you are going to have a great year!

Training Camp Recap: Friday, 8/1 PM Practice
As usual I’m going to go through some training camp coverage and provide you with links.
Looks like Dwayne Bowe is really going to be a force this year.
- PLAYS OF THE DAY Dwayne Bowe against Tyron Brackenridge was definitely a mismatch, but even so, the young cornerback stayed with the receiver down the field. Brodie Croyle still fired the ball into tight coverage, but purposefully threw behind his favorite target. Bowe twisted his body around, plucked the ball out of the air and fell backwards out of bounds, keeping his feet in for a gain of about 11 yards. Sometimes, there’s just no way to defend a pass, especially when it’s headed for Bowe.Occasionally, Brodie Croyle looks like he’s headed to the Pro Bowl – particularly when he throws on the run. Today, off bootleg action, Croyle zipped another ball down the sideline to Bowe. The pass was so well thrown, placed perfectly outside Bowe’s right shoulder, that there was no way anyone else could have caught it. Had the ball been placed in front of Bowe’s left shoulder, the completion might have ended up out of bounds. [WPI]
Some more from WPI regarding who is hot and who is not:
- WHO’S HOT
OK, yes, Bowe is hot. He was again all over the place today, and is clearly in no danger of a sophomore slump. He’s constantly using his body to shield the ball from defenders, and his hands look incredibly strong. I’ll be shocked if Bowe comes up short of 1,000 yards again.
Give it up for Brad Cottam, who caught everything thrown his way today. That hasn’t always been the case here in River Falls. Cottam’s last catch of practice drew praise from Head Coach Herm Edwards.
WHO’S NOT
Is Tamba Hali really capable of playing right defensive end? I expected him to beat Herb Taylor over and over again today, but Brodie Croyle had plenty of time on most snaps. There was more pressure coming from the middle and right side of the offensive line, or from blitzes. If Hali can’t get the better of John Tait next week against the Bears, the Chiefs may have a problem.
Donnie Edwards (hamstring), Kolby Smith (groin), Branden Albert (foot), Brandon Flowers (hip), TJ Jackson and Jackie Battle sat out the afternoon’s practice.
Also, yesterday was Chiefs DT Glenn Dorsey’s Birthday, for which his teammates got him a cake. Happy Birthday Glenn Dorsey from all of us.

Injured Albert could miss the rest of camp
This is just our luck… Hopefully Branden Albert will be fully healed by the time the regular season starts… CRAP!
- Rookie offensive tackle Branden Albert could miss the remainder of training camp with what the Chiefs called a sprained foot.
- Coach Herm Edwards called Albert day to day, but acknowledged Albert was unlikely to play in Thursday’s preseason opener against the Bears in Chicago.
“I’d say he’s more out than in,” Edwards said. “He’ll have to rest it and see where he’s at right now.”

Here is your chance Herb Taylor, step up and make us all proud!

2008 Chiefs-Vikings scrimmage
No Jared Allen?? WHAT?! Sorry about my last post titled “Jared Allen comes back… and oh yeah Vikings Scrimmage“, I didn’t know yet. Naw, it disappointed a lot of media and fans but I can understand Brad Childress’s decision. With the amount of money that they paid to get Jared Allen, why risk him getting injured at a glorified practice that is bound to be a dog and pony show against his former team. But with that said I personally would have really liked to see what the Chiefs O-Line could have done against what should be, if not the best, one of the best D-Lines in the entire NFL.
Now here are some updates about what happened at yesterday’s Chiefs vs. Vikings scrimmage;
First off, Branden Albert injured his ankle again, hopefully this isn’t one of those nagging injuries.
Left tackle Branden Albert had his right ankle stepped on Thursday night and immediately exited. He did not return. Second-team left tackle Herb Taylor replaced Albert for the remainder of the evening [WPI]
Here is some more good info from WPI:
- WHO’S HOT
Minnesota’s defensive backs could not contain Dwayne Bowe tonight, at least early. In a span of just nine snaps during 7-on-7 drills, Bowe hauled in five catches, highlighted by his grab over the middle of the field. Kansas City’s quarterbacks didn’t throw any particularly amazing passes, Bowe was simply bigger and more physical than any Vikings defensive back, and his route running was splendid.
Larry Johnson looks like he’s got plenty of gas left in the tank. When the Chiefs opened a hole tonight, 27 was through it like a rocket. On the first play of 9-on-9 drills, LJ zipped off left tackle for a big gain down the sideline. Later, on a toss left, Johnson cut back to his right, thundered past the line of scrimmage and ran over a linebacker. Towards the end of practice, Johnson delivered a haymaker of a stiff arm to a Vikings defensive back. Check out Pat Clifton’s recap for more on the return of “The Centaur.”According to my notes, Brodie Croyle literally completed every pass he attempted tonight. Now, I only saw Croyle attempt seven passes, and most came in a 7-on-7 drill. But Croyle was accurate, used audibles effectively, and was probably the best quarterback on the field tonight. Nothing he threw up came close to being intercepted. Considering how awful Croyle was the last time he practiced, it was hard to find fault with his performance tonight.
Some more:
- PLAYS OF THE DAY
Dwayne Bowe got a clean release off the line of scrimmage before slashing into a gaping hole in the middle of Minnesota’s defense. Bowe’s route was run so well, Tyler Thigpen had an enormous space to throw the ball into. The play resulted in a 20-yard completion.
Everyone is excited about Will Franklin because of his 4.37 40-yard dash time, but tonight he showed toughness and run-after-catch skills down by the goal line. In 11-on-11’s, Franklin ran a short curl route and turned around to present himself to quarterback Brodie Croyle, who thumped the ball right into his chest. Franklin did a little shimmy to escape one defender and dove into the end zone for a touchdown.
So all reports I have heard said that the Chiefs running game looks much better. I even heard that LJ had times where he wouldn’t even get touched for about 10-12 yards! I know this was just a practive but that is so good to hear.
Have a good one Chiefs fans and don’t forget to check out all the coverage below of last nights srimmage.
Here some photos from UW-RF, not sure why there are not any from the scrimmage, but whatever…

Jared Allen comes back… and oh yeah Vikings Scrimmage
So as many of you know tonight is the annual Chiefs/Vikings scrimmage. That means that Benny Sapp-Attack and Jared Allen will be back on the Chiefs practice field… only wearing different colors. A lot of people will see the Jared Allen/Branden Albert match up and then automatically makes assumptions. I hope people don’t read into this too much. Sure it is a great test for Albert to go against one of the best in the business, but no one will really know if the Chiefs made the right move by trading Allen for picks until a few years down the line. I would love to see Albert manhandle Allen, but realisticly it isn’t likely to happen.
Sometimes I still can’t belive Jared Allen isn’t a Chiefs anymore, I mean the guy was a beast and the fans loved him, but I do understand why the trade happen and in my opinion I think the trade will be good for both teams in the long run. I wish you the best Jared, but just not against us!
Here is a video of Jared Allen showing off his full beard and talking about playing against the Chiefs.
Anywho, the srimmage is at 6:30 tonight and as soon as I find out details on what went down you will be the first to know!
