Well, to be honest this came as quite a surprise to me, but I am not all that shook up about Damon Huard joining Brodie Croyle on IR.  The Chiefs are looking for the QB of the future right now and we all know Huard does not fit into that plan. However this does worry me a little bit in the ‘win now’ department, but whatever.

This leaves the Chiefs with Tyler ‘Getin’ Thiggy with it’ Thigpen, Ingle Martin, and new Chiefs QB Quinn Gray as the Chiefs only options as of right now.

I guess we will see what happens.

Also, as many of you could/would have guessed Larry Johnson will be deactivated this Sunday as well.  To that I say, “whippidy do da”. At this point it doesn’t really matter who is out there to me because the production seems to be about the same regardless. LJ might be gone before next season anyway, so this gives the Chiefs another chance to see what their future can be without him. Come on Jamaal Charles and Kolby Smith! Git-r-done!

Chiefs vs Falcons - Matchups to Watch

Tyler Thigpen

Well, the Chiefs are 0-2 and need a win really bad. Luckily they play a team that gives them a chance to win this week(I think). Here are some of the matchups that I find interesting for this weeks Kansas City Chiefs vs Atlanta Falcons game.

Tyler Thigpen vs Tyler Thigpen:This is a huge game for the second year QB out of Coastal Carolina as he starts his first ever game at QB in the NFL. It will be interesting to see if he when he gets into trouble if he tries to squeeze a ball in somewhere, throw it away, or try to use his legs to get him out of trouble. He needs to make good decisions for the Chiefs to have a chance to win here.

Branden Albert vs John Abraham: Right now Abraham is leading the league in sacks with four in two games.  Braden Albert has looked pretty impressive himself in his first two games at left tackle. It will be very interesting to me to see how Albert stacks up against one of the better pass rushers in the league right now. Also, you have to wonder if Atlanta has considered lining up Abraham on the left side so he can go against Damion SackNTosh. Geez, I hope not.

Tamba Hali vs Sam Baker: Tamba Hali has yet to stand out much this year as the RDE and Sam Baker is a rookie LT trying to protect his rookie QB’s blindside. Although Hali is listed on the injury report as questionable, I think he will play. But even if he doesn’t, whoever lines up against Baker needs to test the rookie and see if he can hold up. If the Chiefs can get some consistent pressure from the blindside, it could be a long day for the Falcons (and vice-versa if they don’t).

Falcons running backs vs Chiefs Rush Defense: As we all know the Oakland Raiders ran all over the Chiefs last week and piled up 300 yards on the ground. Needless to say if the Chiefs give up anywhere close to this amount again the game is over.  The Chiefs defensive line need to make sure that they man up and allow the linebackers to fill the gaps. Chiefs’ Linebackers: fill the correct gaps and make some tackles this week.

What do you think of these matchups?  Are there any other matchups you think will be interesting?

Yes fellow fans, this is our starting quarterback this Sunday.

Hopefully he keep as good as grasp on the game ball as he does on Uranus Mr. Skeleton.

Regardless of the motivation, rejoice Chiefs fans: your skeleton-banging quarterback is here to resuscitate your offense. Whitlock must be pumped.

Chiefs gettin’ Thiggy with it: Three Different Starting QBs in three games

As many of you have probably already heard, Tyler Thigpen will be starting for the Chiefs this Sunday when the Chiefs take on the Atlanta Falcons. This means that for the fourth time in NFL history a team will start three different QBs in the first three weeks of a season.  Here is the complete list:

Chiefs 2008 Brodie Croyle, Damon Huard, Tyler Thigpen 0-2
Rams 1976 Pat Haden, Ron Jaworski, James Harris 10-3-1
Browns 1988 Bernie Kosar, Gary Danielson, Mike Pagel 10-6
Jaguars 1997 Mark Brunell, Rob Johnson, Steve Matthews 11-5

What I find funny about this is the other three teams that did this finished the season with winning records.   Could this be a sign?  I hope so. (I can still be optimistic, right?)

In reality the Chiefs will probably break that mold, and while we have the chance, I say go for a new record Chiefs. Next week we can start Ingle Martain and be the first team to ever start four different QBs to begin the season. If you wanted to be really creative you could even throw Marques Hagans out there for game five and make if FIVE different starters in the first five games of a season.

Brodie should be back by that time anyway…
